Can domain registrations be cancelled or refunded?
Domain registrations are considered custom, personalized services under § 312g (2) No. 1 of the German Civil Code (BGB). Once a domain has been successfully registered, cancellation or refund is no longer possible.
Why is that?
Registering a domain means it is instantly and exclusively reserved for you. The registration is processed in real time with the respective registry and cannot be undone — not even by us as the registrar.
Therefore, a cancellation or refund is not possible, even if:
-
the domain was ordered by mistake,
-
there is a typo in the domain name,
-
you no longer need the domain.
Please make sure to carefully check your order before confirming it.
Exceptions – When can we offer goodwill?
In some cases, we may offer goodwill and cancel a domain registration, for example:
-
if the registration technically failed,
-
if the domain has not yet been submitted to the registry,
-
in case of an obviously fraudulent or abusive registration (e.g. phishing),
-
if no external costs are incurred by cancelling the registration (e.g. internal test domains).
In all cases, a review by our support team is required — including a check whether the respective registry permits a cancellation or refund at all. Without the registry's approval, a cancellation is technically and contractually impossible.
Please note that there is no general right to cancellation or refund.
