If you see the message
“At least one NIC handle of this contact has the status FAILED/DELAYED”
for a .de domain, this can occur, for example, after changing the name or other contact details.
Why does this happen?
If the name of an existing contact needs to be changed, the existing NIC handle cannot always be updated directly. DENIC may reject the change with an error such as:
The value of "Name" cannot be changed with an UPDATE
In this case, a new contact must be created.
What should I do?
- Open the Contacts section in your customer account.
- Create a new contact with the current and correct details.
- Provide any required verification documents for the new contact.
- Assign the new contact to the affected domains.
- Save the changes.
The domains will then use the newly created contact.
What happens to the old contact?
The old contact cannot necessarily be deleted immediately. For example, deletion may be blocked while a verification process or another restriction is still active.
In this case, no further action is initially required. The important step is to ensure that the affected domains are assigned to the newly created contact with the correct details.
If the FAILED/DELAYED status remains despite using the new contact, or if you are unable to update the domains, please contact our support team.
