What ports and methods are used for receiving and sending email?

If you have a hosting package with us that contains e-mail accounts, the following settings can be used under the respective ports:

Configuration settings for e-mail clients

We recommend establishing the connection with STARTTLS. All current e-mail clients support STARTTLS.

  1. SMTP
    Port: 587
    Encryption method: STARTTLS
    Authentication method: normal password
  2. IMAP
    Port: 143
    Encryption method: STARTTLS
    Authentication method: normal password
  3. POP3
    Port: 110
    Encryption method: STARTTLS
    Authentication method: normal password

Alternative connection option with SSL / TLS

  1. SMTP
    Port: 465
    Encryption method: SSL / TLS
    Authentication method: normal password
  2. IMAPs
    Port: 993
    Encryption method: SSL / TLS
    Authentication method: normal password
  3. POP3s
    Port: 995
    Encryption method: SSL / TLS
    Authentication method: normal password

E-mail server connection options
The following connection options are only available for the connection between email servers.
Some e-mail clients can also connect to these ports for backward compatibility.
We reserve the right to deactivate this option in the future. For this reason, we recommend establishing the connection with STARTTLS.

  1. SMTP
    Port: 25
    Encryption method: none, STARTTLS
  2. SMTPs
    Port: 25
    Encryption method: SSL

Illustration of the different connection options based on the good old postal service:
There are two types of mailboxes there, the large yellow mailboxes on the street and the small mailboxes in the houses. Ports 25 and 465 correspond to the small mailboxes on the houses; Postmen leave letters there, but no letters are placed there for further dispatch. These belong in the large yellow mailboxes outside - this corresponds to port 587 on servers.

Notes for Outlook:

As there are often problems with Outlook determining the correct settings, you will find some tips below.

After automatic detection, Outlook probably sets an incorrect incoming and outgoing mail server.

However, the incoming mail server must be changed to mail.webspace.bz and the outgoing mail server to smtp.webspace.bz. You can find this information in your customer area under Hosting (in the menu on the left) and on the overview page there:

Für einen Zugriff via POP 3 sollten folgende Einstellungen hinterlegt und aktiviert werden:

Für IMAP sollten folgende Einstellungen funktionieren:

In both cases, you must replace the user name with your e-mail address. The password is the one you selected in our hosting administration (Froxlor) when you created the mailbox.

⚠ Please note that Outlook also requires authentication of the SMTP outbox.
To do this, please open the Advanced settings and tick the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) requires authentication box. Select Log in with: and enter the same user name and password as for the incoming mail server.

⚠ The option Login using secure authentication (SPA) must not be activated!
