A domain is deactivated when the data of the domain contact has not been verified. This can relate to the confirmation of the domain contact's email address or a requested verification of name and address. As a result, the website and all associated services are no longer accessible.
Email address not verified
A one-time verification of the email address of the domain contact is required for all domains. After the confirmation email has been sent, the domain owner has 15 days to confirm the email address. If no confirmation is received within this period, the domain will be deactivated. Once the email address is confirmed, the domain will be reactivated and all associated services will be accessible again.
Contact data not verified
In certain cases, a risk-based verification of the owner's data (name and address) may also be required. The applicable deadlines may vary depending on the requirements of the respective registry and will be communicated in the corresponding notification. If the verification is not completed within the given deadline, the affected domain may be deactivated.
Please note that some registries carry out verification independently and may send their own requests. Therefore, despite successful verification with INWX, further verification requests may still occur. In this case, the domain contact will receive a corresponding email from the registry.
These requirements stem from the 2013 ICANN Registrar Accreditation Agreement, which mandates a one-time email verification for all generic and sponsored TLDs, as well as from the NIS2 Directive, which is designed to ensure the accuracy of domain holders’ contact details.
