Why do I have to pay for my .AT domain even though it was set to expire?

In case of non-payment of a .AT domain with the renewal option "Auto Expire", an .AT domain will be returned to the registry nic.at, which will continue to charge for the domain in the future.

For your safety, we already point this out in the customer area and in the renewal reports you receive via e-mail.

To delete an .AT domain you have to do it actively. Otherwise the cancellation request is not apparent. Consequently the nic.at will renew the domain.

You can also transfer an .AT domain back to us up to two weeks after returning it or have it deleted directly at nic.at.

If two weeks have passed, a retroactive termination is no longer possible. You then have to pay for the domain renewal at the nic.at.
